We had unusually warm temperatures for most of March and fresh blossoms on our cherry trees a few days ago. Thenit dropped back near freezing and the rest of the blossoms are waiting to open.

Sky Watch - Changing clouds

On Sunday there were some great clouds and blue sky along with a nice breeze. These shots were taken a little after 6 PM over a 17 minute period.

Our World - Carroll Creek

Paris has the Seine, London the Thames, and New York the Hudson. Frederick was established in 1745 along the banks of Carroll Creek. The creek begins on Catoctin Mountain to the west of town and flows more or less west to east picking up water from other small streams along the way. The first image looks rural, but in fact it is near Fort Detrick, housing and businesses.

The creek flows through Baker Park with quiet vistas to sit and contemplate, or watch the water (and the ducks).

In 1976 the creek flooded downtown homes and businesses. As a result the city built a flood control project with a linear park above it. The beginning of the project (see below) is at the eastern end of Baker Park. The water in the middle of the image below is the above ground creek bed. The water dropping down is going under the linear park to emerge harmlessly on the other side of the business district.

East of the business district is farm land and Carroll Creek empties into the Monocacy River. This field often floods during heavy rain, occasionaly closing the road where I took the picture. The bridge is for a new road which will provide easier travel along the eastern part Frederick.
